LIFESTREAM
COMPLETES FIRST TRAINING FOR STATE FUNDED CHILD CARE LICENSURE
June
2006
LifeStream,
Inc. just completed its first training cycle for Massachusetts Department
of Education licensure in child care. Three area women completed a Foundations
for Family Child Care course and are now licensed to begin providing
childcare within their homes.
Alaina
Joseph, Suhaill Muniz, and Milagros Rivera are LifeStream’s first participants
in the program funded through the Post-Employment Services Program with
a grant from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA). The family
childcare training is offered in collaboration with Child Development
and Education, Inc., which offers statewide early education training.
Participants in the training program offered through LifeStream’s Division
of Employment & Training receive substantial training and support, well
in excess of what the state requires, to become licensed in-home quality
childcare providers. The program is designed to provide individuals
the opportunity to become home-based early education providers in an
effort to meet the state’s growing need for quality childcare. The LifeStream
model fosters the delivery of bilingual childcare services during non-traditional
hours. It is also a resource of quality childcare for recipients seeking
employment. In order to qualify for the training, individuals must be
current or former TAFDC recipients.
The
comprehensive four week program offers the following benefits: the 30
hr/week program meets DTA requirement, equipment & materials are provided
for home-based setting, and the program includes 45 hours of classroom
instruction and 32 hours on-the-job training with $10.00/hour stipend.
LifeStream offers continued mentoring, training, and support after licensure.
English and Spanish speaking instructors are available. For more information
about the program, eligibility or to register for the training, individuals
may contact Shai Ramos at (508) 991-4503 ext 24, TTY 508-998-2870.
